Diabetes Life Cover helps your clients take control

Our Diabetes Life Cover is specifically designed for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. What’s more, it works flexibly with your client's health, so premiums can be reduced if their condition improves.

We know that for people living with diabetes, taking out life cover can be a long and complicated process, with many struggling to find competitively priced protection.  So we’ve created cover and an application process that’s tailored to them.

When your clients apply for Diabetes Life Cover with us, they won’t need to worry about waiting weeks for a decision. Every client who meets our eligibility criteria can get cover immediately – even if we haven’t finished our underwriting process. And our capped reviewable premiums mean they can take out cover that meets their needs and their budget.

As this cover is specifically designed for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, our underwriting approach is different to standard life cover.

We can accept clients with Hba1c blood glucose test results of up to 12%. This means we can offer cover to a larger proportion of people with diabetes - including those who find it difficult to get their condition under control.

We’ve designed a simpler application process that you can complete in less than 30 minutes.Due to the unique features of this cover, it’s available exclusively through our online quote and apply service.

There are three parts to the application process:

  1. Eligibility: Questions that’ll help us determine if a client can apply for cover. For example, we'll ask if they have a history of heart attack, stroke, amputation or diabetic kidney damage.

  2. Diabetes scorecard: Questions about HbA1c blood glucose test results and medical conditions or lifestyle issues that affect long-term diabetes control. We use this information to calculate their premium.

  3. General health and lifestyle: A reduced number of questions tailored towards Life Cover and clients with diabetes.

If your client is eligible, their plan can start as soon you submit their application.

When your clients apply, we'll ask for their most recent HbA1c blood glucose test result to see how well they control their condition. We use this result to calculate an accurate premium. And we need to see evidence of the result within three months of their plan start date.

We’ll then ask for their HbA1c result every year - although they don’t need to send it to us if they don’t want to. If their result changes, their premium could change each year on the date of their plan anniversary - it could go down if their condition improves. And even if their condition gets worse, their premium will never increase above their original starting amount.
